Launched at the same time as its shorter sibling, the five-seater, the new Ford Grand Tourneo Connect is a carrier dedicated to values, designed to compete in the market at a distance from Citroen, Fiat, and Peugeot. Plenty of cubbies and storage slots mean that everything you or your passengers bring with you will have its own space to prevent possessions from moving around the cabin, while four 12-volt sockets should prove sufficient to keep occupants electronic devices fully charged. Thanks to the height of the Grand Tourneo Connect, the windshield feels particularly deep, offering an excellent view of the road ahead, while relatively thin pillars and large windows ensure full visibility is one of Fords strengths. Even though it is essentially a well-appointed van, the comfort levels of the Ford Grand Tourneo Connect are very car-like. Better in terms of ride and handling and interior comfort than other rivals in this class, it also surpasses many conventional cars. Ride quality is well controlled, meaning that while its soft enough to iron out most imperfections, it doesnt pitch back and forth like a seafaring vessel. With its longer wheelbase and wide stance, the Ford feels stable on the road, despite those high sides, while the use of high-strength steels in its construction also ensures its rigidity. Robust work-like plastics dominate the interior, although the look and feel of the controls will be familiar to anyone acquainted with a recent Ford car and certainly wont put anyone new to the brand off. All three rows of seats provide sufficient space for adults, although, admittedly, the rear bench doesnt offer the same degree of support and comfort as the other two The improved seven-seater Ford Grand Tourneo Connect is a robust yet smart people carrier, designed from commercial vehicle roots but offering enough sophistication to meet the needs of many growing families. It is particularly frugal when equipped with the brands latest 1.5-liter EcoBlue diesel engines. When used as a five-seater, you get an immense amount of useful luggage space. Design and construction Judging how much and how little style to throw at a no-nonsense model is a tough call. Certainly, the Grand Tourneo Connect must retain not only a modest price but also the inherent space and durability that are built into every Ford commercial vehicle. The more elegant front end of this revised model features a five-bar Tourneo grille, combined with slimmer headlights and a more aerodynamic bumper and front spoiler. The flanks dont have a full shape in them, but this is forgivable if rear sliding doors are fitted. Each rear seat has integrated headrests and, of course, three-point seatbelts. Split 60/40, the seatback folds and tumbles and can be removed, allowing you to maximize cargo space. The rear seats can be folded flat on the floor for maximum luggage space, and theres an optional third row of seats split 50/50, which can also be folded flat. The second-row rear seats have ISOFIX anchor points, making it easy to fit the latest detachable child seats. You have storage boxes on both the drivers and passengers sides of the dashboard, 1.5-liter bottle holders in the front doors, floor storage, and even overhead aircraft-style lockers. Theres up to 2,620 liters of space; the third-row seats also slide forward/backward to allow customers the choice between extra legroom or increased luggage capacity.
