Ford KA+ ACTIVE Parts | 2019 - 2020 | SOHC Duratec Dragon #8AA2K085K
The style belts inspired by SUV have set the Ford Ka + Active apart from its more orthodox sibling, the Ka + hatchback, a model that benefited from a series of improvements for the year 2018 when this tougher-looking version was introduced. Active is the label Ford applies to these conventional hatches, which have undergone a crossover-style makeover; the Ka + Active joins the Fiesta Active, which also arrived in Ford showrooms in 2018. Unfortunately for Ford, interest in the Active was lackluster, and both the regular Ka + and the Active were discontinued towards the end of 2019. Does the Ka + Active have four-wheel drive? Forget any notions about the Ford being an alternative to the Fiat Panda 4x4 - a small car with the go-anywhere ability of a mountain goat. Instead, the Ka + Active remains a front-wheel drive, like the hatch it is based on, aiming to attract the markets attention with the looks of the Dacia Sandero Stepway, Kia Picanto X-Line, pricier versions of the Suzuki Ignis, and Vauxhall Viva Rocks. The introduction of the Ka + Active also heralds the arrival of two new engines, which are also found in the refreshed Ka + hatchback. Expected to be the most popular is a new non-turbo 1.2-liter petrol engine, available in both 70 HP and 85 HP forms. It is joined by a diesel engine for the first time in the Ka + - a 95 HP 1.5-liter TDCi turbocharged unit, which is better suited for drivers covering a higher annual mileage. Official performance and fuel efficiency figures will be confirmed closer to the Ka + Actives sale date in the UK, but with standard stop/start systems, they should prove to be frugal. What is different about the Ka + Active? While the Ka + hatchback emphasizes being a spacious, value-for-money supermini, the Active version is adorned with a series of superficial changes meant to make it more appealing. Like an SUV, the Ka + Active sits a little higher on the road - the ride height has been increased by 23 mm compared to the conventional hatch - while the bumpers, sills, and wheels are covered in black plastic, suggesting latent toughness. At least it will fend off parking dings without ruining the paintwork. A set of unique 15-inch alloy wheels transforms the exterior. Inside, the changes appear more subtle and are limited to the introduction of brown stitching - pardon, Siena Hazel - and inlays on the upholstery. Ka + Active is well equipped? As part of the improvement of the entire Ka + range, the Active version benefits from an extended range of standard features. Front electric windows and door mirrors, remote central locking, a start button, and hill start assist are part of the package, while optional features include the Sync3 multimedia system complete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic lights and wipers, and rear parking sensors, available at additional cost. Overall verdict If youre after a meeting in the model of a Hyundai i10 or a Toyota Aygo, but want a stylish SUV, the Ford Ka + Active might be the car for you. When you think of the Ford Ka, you might think of the cute little three-door car that seemed to be around forever, but which was actually replaced in 2016 by the five-door Ka +. This Active car came along in 2018. You can also get active versions of the Fiesta and Focus. Ford Ka + Active is a standalone component, so there are no other options, but you have to choose between a 1.2-liter petrol engine or a 1.5-liter four-cylinder diesel. Ford Ka + Active from the standard car are the wheel arch cladding, unique grille design, and silver roof rails. Other styling touches that enhance the SUV look include 15-inch alloy wheels, and theres also an additional color option called Canyon Ridge, which sounds fancy but is essentially a metallic bronze. Ford Ka + Active is a bit taller, longer, and wider. The dashboard features a 6.5-inch color touchscreen that hosts the phone and entertainment system Ford SYNC 3. This allows you to control audio and connected smartphones and is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Its a good touchscreen system, but it can be a bit distracting to use on the go, although you can simply use voice commands. Steering wheel-mounted audio controls also help. You have a few USB ports under the air conditioning controls, and the other standard kit is quite good - front passengers benefit from electric windows, while those in the back get privacy glass. Youll get rain-sensitive wipers and Fords Quickclear, which clears frozen windshields in seconds. If your knees or hips arent quite what they used to be, then the raised suspension that gives the Ford Ka + Active its SUV look also brings the added benefit of being easy to get in and out of. While the drivers seat has height adjustment, the steering wheel only adjusts up and down (not in and out), so finding a comfortable driving position is more difficult than it could be. Storage is fine - when youre sitting in the front. Theres a deep glove compartment and a few shelves for phones and keys, etc. Those in the front have door bins large enough for a big water bottle and a couple of cup holders in the center armrest between the driver and passenger. Rear passengers have to make do with reaching forward to two cup holders between the two front seats. Everyone (front and back) should be fine for headroom, but due to the rear floor hump and a thin middle seat, three adults wont be comfortable in the back. You can fit two child seats on the isofix mounts in the rear seats, and there are no practical covers to access them. The Ford Ka + Actives cargo space is quite good - at 270 liters, its one of the largest boots in its class, which is enough to take four full shopping bags. However, you have to lift heavy bags over a lip to put them in the trunk, and as you lift the bags. The rear seats split 60/40 if you need extra space, but they dont fold flat, instead creating a big step in the middle. You can get a Ford Ka + Active with a 1.5 turbo diesel engine, which averages nearly 70mpg, but costs over 14,500 euros, so youll need to do a lot of miles to justify this engine over the 1.2 85 HP petrol engine. The three-cylinder petrol isnt particularly smooth or quiet, nor is it particularly powerful - meaning you have to plan overtaking maneuvers carefully and change gear if youre climbing particularly steep hills. The average fuel economy is 49.6mpg, but in real-world driving, expect it to drop to around 40mpg. Both engines come with a five-speed manual gearbox - you cant get an automatic Ka + Active. The standard Ka + is quite fun to drive and its almost true for the Active, but being so much taller, it leans a bit more when you go too fast around a corner. Road and wind noise isnt an issue, as the noise is drowned out by the engine. Euro NCAP hasnt yet tested the Ford Ka + Active, but the safety kit that sets the Ka + Active apart from other similar cars is that it comes with Ford MyKey. This allows you to set a maximum speed and audio volume when young or inexperienced drivers get behind the wheel. Parking sensors and hill start assist are also helpful. The standard Ford Ka + is a fun and cheap city car to drive, but bland. The Ka + Active SUV certainly looks like it adds a much-desired dose of style. But in doing so, it loses some of its fun and affordable driving qualities in the process. You have to decide which is more important to you.
