Interior: Surprisingly, the Active is not very different from the normal Fiesta on the inside. Despite the SUV-style exterior makeover, the interior is not more spacious, although it is roomy enough to accommodate four adults in relative comfort, five at a push. The dashboard is logically arranged and incorporates the eight-inch Ford Sync 3 touchscreen, which also supports seamless smartphone connectivity, thanks to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Although the touchscreen is easy to use and meets most requirements, it is not as impressive as the equivalent Volkswagen Polo system. There are plenty of adjustments for the driver through the seat and steering wheel, and the increased ride height also adds a bit more visibility on the road. Our test car is equipped with extremely comfortable sport seats with yellow trims, which look and feel the part. Engines: Fiesta Active is equipped with the 1.0-liter Ford EcoBoost turbo petrol engine, which is excellent news as it is a brilliant unit. With 100 horsepower and a six-speed manual transmission, the Active moves easily through the city and performs well at highway speeds, all the while with a characteristic three-cylinder hum. However, this is the only engine offered in the range at the moment, meaning there are no diesel units to consider. That being said, the small EcoBoost is reasonably economical to run, and Ford claims an average economy of 6.1 l/100 km, while the annual vehicle tax is listed at just 200 euros. Driving: The latest Ford Fiesta is one of the best cars to drive in its class, and despite being taller and more crossover-oriented, the Active follows suit in this regard. It is fun to drive on winding roads and grips the road well with responsive steering and relative balance. It tends to roll more in corners than the smaller Fiesta Supermini, but we will forgive it for that. The slightly revised suspension and increased ride height work wonders for the ride quality of the Fiesta Active and offer much-improved bump absorption on less favorable road surfaces. Pricing and features: Prices for the new Ford Fiesta Active start at 18,885 EUR, which is considerably more than the comparable Fiesta version (15,377 EUR). We drove the higher-spec "Active 2" model, which benefits from a range of enhanced equipment, although prices start at 20,734 EUR. Active 2 is well-equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, a contrasting black roof color scheme, black roof rails, an upgraded Bang & Olufsen sound system, Ford Sync, and an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment display, cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, and traffic sign recognition. There are also upgraded sport cloth seats with yellow accents and details, along with a central armrest. Our test car is also equipped with a selection of optional accessories, including the frozen white paint scheme and rear parking sensors. Fiesta Active draws inspiration from the SUV world, with raised ride height, smoother ride comfort, and chunkier styling than the supermini Fiesta. It remains fun to drive and with low running costs from the excellent EcoBoost engines. That being said, it is not more spacious than the regular Fiesta, although it is considerably more expensive and not truly an SUV. If you are leaning towards a supermini-sized car with a bit more presence, it is one to consider alongside the Hyundai i20 Active. There are not many other options in this segment. The SUV-inspired Active variant stands out with more robust design elements for an adventurous character. A wide upper grille has strong vertical strakes, finished in gloss black, with taller and more prominent side vents that reflect Actives high and crossover stance. Seven new alloy wheel designs complete the bold new exterior style, and two new exterior colors are also available – Boundless Blue and Beautiful Berry.
