Regularly check the engine and oil of the Fiesta 2017-2021

One of the most important things to check on the Ford Fiesta 2017-2021 engine is the oil. The oil is responsible for keeping the heat generated by the engine under control. This is done by drawing the heat away from the engines combustion chamber.

The oil also helps lubricate the components to protect them against friction. As time passes, the oil can accumulate carbon deposits and debris, creating a sludge-like consistency. The result is reduced efficiency in temperature control and component lubrication.

Checking the oil is simple with the new Fiesta model. Find the engine dipstick and remove it. Wipe it clean and then put it back in. Look at the color of the oil on this stick. If the oil has a honey or amber color, you can continue to use it. If the oil appears black, you should change it. Piese-Ford.ro has all the tools and equipment necessary to help you manage this process.

Air filter inspections

The combustion reaction with gas will only occur when oxygen is present. To ensure that dirt is not sucked into the engine, the air filter blocks dust. As time passes, dust can accumulate in the filter, interrupting the flow of oxygen into the combustion chamber. A filter clogged with dirt cannot prevent debris from entering the engine. Larger amounts of dirt and debris can create problems, including a clogged fuel injector.

Ford Fiesta engines and specifications
There are plenty of combinations of trims and engines to choose from if you want a new Fiesta, with models available in Trend, Titanium, Titanium X, ST-Line, ST-Line X editions, as well as the ST hatchbacks.

The most popular model in the range is the Titanium, while the most favored engine is Fords impressive 1.0-liter EcoBoost petrol. This engine is available with an option of 100, 125, or 140 HP, plus a smaller 1.1-liter with 75 HP available in the range.
If you prefer diesel, there is a 1.5-liter TDCi diesel with 85 HP, while the Fiesta ST models come with a 1.5-liter turbo petrol producing 200 HP. As if there wasnt enough choice, Ford also offers the Fiesta Active, a connected version with a slightly higher ride height, some external differences like roof bars, and some tougher interior aspects for those with active, outdoor lifestyles.

What is it like to drive the Ford Fiesta?
Very good indeed. It is as enjoyable to drive as the previous version, but now it is equipped with some of the latest technical and driver assistance features - if you pay for them. Sure, there are some cheaper-feeling materials in the cabin, and we would give the glass sunroof a wide berth for its cabin penalties and wind noise, but it remains among the class leaders for its driving and cabin.

Ford Fiesta ST and Active models were launched in 2018
The Ford Fiesta ST is the fastest version in the range and builds on a reputation largely created by the excellent car from the previous generation. For 2018, the Fiesta ST debuted with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine producing 200 HP and 290 Nm of torque, meaning 0-100 km/h in 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 233 km/h.

Safety
The Ford Fiesta was crash-tested by safety experts at Euro NCAP in 2017, resulting in a solid five-star rating, with impressive scores for adults and children.

Base cars benefit from lane-keeping assistance, a speed limiter, a rear seatbelt reminder, and automatic headlights. You also get a tire pressure monitoring system and a tire repair kit and six airbags, including a pair of curtains. The body itself is also much stronger due to the use of more advanced metals.

Move up to Zetec, and youll benefit from a heated windshield that clears quickly in cold conditions, Sync 3 multimedia with emergency assistance that calls the authorities if youve had a crash, and LED headlights.

At the Titanium trim, you also benefit from traffic sign recognition, automatic beam headlights, and a driver fatigue alert system, along with cruise control and automatic lights and wipers.
Ford Fiesta Sync3 explained
However, the Sync3 infotainment system works well - the screen is ultra-sensitive, and the menus are very intuitive, backed by processing power to allow quick pinch and swipe actions on the sat-nav mapping. Ford hasnt fallen behind when it comes to in-car entertainment, and this system feels up-to-date.

Ford Fiesta Interior 2017-2021
While the covers take different shapes depending on the trim level, the seats themselves are the same for all Fiestas except the ST model, and we found the front seats particularly extremely comfortable and supportive.

Fords Sync3 infotainment system is equipped with important Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connections. But not every Fiesta comes with the infotainment system. It is an optional extra on the lower Trend models. If using your phone to control the infotainment system with your car is important to you, its probably better value to upgrade to the Titanium-type cars.

Comfort
Well-insulated cabin
Great seats
glass roof
This is another area where the Fiesta has seen dramatic improvement compared to its predecessor. We were particularly impressed by the lack of wind noise at highway speeds during our test drive. Once again, we must warn against ordering the panoramic glass roof here - it creates a much clearer experience even with the glass closed.

Engine and road noise are well-contained, and the excellent suspension not only does a great job of absorbing bumps but also recovers so quickly that it is always ready for the next one. Ford engineers spend an immense amount of time on this, and they are paid for it.
Reliability
The cabin feels of reasonable quality - better than before, but not near the class leader
Tried and tested engines and running gear should translate into reliability
Fords recent dependability has been above average, but it has climbed in prices
Despite being smaller and cheaper, the Ford Fiesta feels as well-built as any other Ford like the Focus and Mondeo - but it is clearly higher in price.

Four engines, multiple powers
There is no hybrid or electric propulsion on the cards
From here, you can choose four main engine options. On the petrol side, there are 1.0 liters, 1.1 liters, and 1.5 liters. There is also a diesel - a 1.5-liter unit.

The 1.1-liter comes with a five-speed manual. Any other version comes with a six-speed manual or an automatic. The six-speed manual is the one to go for - it is an admirable effort, feeling solid, with excellent lever placement in the cabin that doesnt help at the end.

Ford Fiesta petrol explained
1.1 Ti-VCT, 75 HP, 14sec 0-100 km/h,
1.0T EcoBoost manual, 100 HP, 10.5sec 0-100 km/h
1.0T EcoBoost automatic, 100 HP, 12.2 sec 0-100 km/h
1.0T EcoBoost manual, 125 HP, 9.9sec 0-100 km/h
1.0T EcoBoost manual, 140 HP, 9sec 0-100 km/h
1.5T EcoBoost, manual, 200 HP, 6.7sec 0-100 km/h

A single automatic option Ford Fiesta
If you want an automatic gearbox, currently, there is only one choice - it may reflect the fact that Ford considers that only 8% of Fiestas will be equipped this way.

Dont worry too much about the difference - the result is that it takes a little longer to change gears than you might be used to, even if you use the diminutive steering wheel shift paddles. However, for the most part, it is a fairly smooth gearbox and becomes a bit jerkier if you want to accelerate very quickly. Although it is quick off the line, this traction takes almost two seconds longer to reach 0-100 km/h than the manual, so its best to choose this if you prioritize performance over convenience.

Ford Fiesta diesel explained
1.5 TDCi diesel, 85 HP, 12.5sec 0-100 km/h, 177 km/h

The diesel is not as smooth or responsive as the 1.0-liter EcoBoost petrol, but it compares with many others, and during our test, it recorded around 10mpg better during mixed driving. It will be enough to change it for many.

For enthusiastic drivers: Ford Fiesta ST
The previous Fiesta ST was widely considered one of the best hot hatches you could buy, and the 2018 version seems to continue this trend. The recipe is very similar, although with a 1.5-liter turbo three-cylinder engine under the hood, instead of the previous 1.6-liter four-cylinder.

Heres an interesting fact about the Fiestas handling: Ford engineers have again tuned the steering resistance by about 20%. This is the opposite pole of what many firms do these days - adding extra weight that they assume translates into "feedback" about what the front wheels are facing under the car.

So, you might think Fords approach could make the steering less impressive than before, but youd be wrong. It certainly feels lighter, but instead, there is a wonderful immediate and predictable response at the first turn. Its something Ford is a master at, and it shows. You can pull the Fiesta on winding B roads with a great deal of confidence because you can tell exactly what it will do.

In fact, the entire chassis is a masterpiece. The amount of grip is greater than ever, but its the way it instantly corners brilliantly and smooths out bumps and lumps on the road that stands out. In fairness, the eighth-generation Fiesta was particularly good in this regard, but jumping from rival cars is indeed very noticeable.

At launch, there are two distinct suspension setups. Zetec, Titanium, and Vignale have a comfort-oriented setup. This standard chassis retains the characteristic agile feel of the Fiesta, and you feel it as you spin it around. It also holds up very well, subtly using the invisible hand of brake applications on the inner wheel.

On very fast roads with three-dimensional corners, the damping can be a bit uncertain, leading to body cracking. Even in a straight line, rises and rapid undulations will send it into a vertical wave motion. Also, all versions of the new Fiesta have a wider track and tighter tires than the old one, so naturally, it is capable of cornering at faster speeds and putting more damping.

ST-Line is even more self-assured. Thanks to its lower ride, stiffer springs, firmer dampers, stronger rear torsion bar, and firmer anti-roll bar, and even recalibrated steering assistance and ESP tuning.

So, body roll is always less, steering is more precise even when there is a load of strong cornering. Unlike older superminis, you drive with the steering wheel - there is not much chance to cut the line on acceleration. But then the steering is so precise that its not a big problem. Its not as transparent and modifiable at the limit as a Mini, but we still have the real ST to follow.
